Well according to google images they aren't, type "Homo Sapien" in Google images, and all you'll get is images of male Homo Sapiens. Of course I am not blaming Google, it's just a search engine, but apparently there's still a general public view that sees women as less Homo Sapien than men.
Intriguingly, it's not the same case if you were to Google search "human", there's a better representation of women then.
